Birdy. Discovered her a few months back.
Ah, Birdy. Her voice is classic, unusual and way too mature for her age. Which is—just to be clear—fifteen. Yes, she is 15 YEARS OLD! That’s even younger than I am! :O
Her real name is Jasmine van den Bogaerde. Her voice is perfect for her retro, just-classic-enough-for-today music. She mostly does covers for Bon Iver and the likes. But she’s released her own self-titled album. She was kind enough to release an album sampler in her Youtube channel:
Frankly, I was shocked when I first heard her and she’s not as inconspicuous as I thought she was either. It seems (this information is from Wikipedia, so it may not be reliable) that she won Open Mic UK (a music competition) in 2008, at the age of 12. Whoa, what a prodigy!
I love her vocal tone and to me it seems as if she isn’t after the fame as much as appreciation for her music. She seems like a very mature, reserved musician and I like that. Well, enjoy her music! I’m eager to see what she comes up with next and follow her career. And I’d like to see how she escalates her fame, if she does.
